V&A Strike Suspended: Prospect and PCS Unions Accept Improved Pay Offer, London Museums Stay Open

A planned strike at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London has been suspended after management made an improved pay offer, averting closures during the busy half-term period. Members of the Prospect and Public and Commercial Services (PCS) unions had voted to walk out on Thursday and Friday over pay and working conditions, including inadequate toilet and hydration breaks. The strike would have shut the V&A's main South Kensington galleries, as well as V&A East, V&A Storehouse, and Young V&A in east London. Instead, the unions have agreed to enter Acas-facilitated talks with museum management, keeping all sites open to the public. The dispute highlights ongoing concerns over staff welfare in the cultural sector, where low pay and poor conditions have sparked industrial action at several institutions. With negotiations set to resume, both sides will be under pressure to reach a lasting agreement that addresses the root causes of the dispute and prevents future disruptions.
