GTA VI Download Size Revealed: Rockstar Says You'll Need Up to 212GB Free Space

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will require up to 212GB of storage space for the pre-load file, depending on the device. The announcement came on Tuesday, just weeks before the game's highly anticipated release later this month. PlayStation 5 users can start pre-loading the game now, while Xbox Series X|S owners will need to wait until closer to launch. The massive file size highlights the sheer scale of GTA VI, which promises a sprawling open world set in a fictional version of Miami and its surrounding areas. For players, this means clearing out significant space on their consoles—potentially deleting other games or investing in additional storage. The 212GB figure is among the largest for a console game to date, surpassing many current titles by a wide margin. This news matters because it sets expectations for players and underscores the technical demands of next-generation gaming. With modern games growing ever larger, storage management has become a crucial part of the gaming experience. Rockstar's confirmation allows fans to prepare their systems ahead of launch day, ensuring a smooth start to one of the most awaited titles in years. As the release date approaches, players should double-check their available storage and consider external SSDs if needed. GTA VI is shaping up to be a landmark release, and being ready for its hefty download is the first step into its vast virtual world.
