Cheapest New Gaming Consoles in 2026: Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch, and More

Finding an affordable new gaming console in 2026 is still possible, but it requires careful consideration amid recent price adjustments. The Xbox Series S remains a top budget choice, often retailing around $299, offering access to current-generation games without the higher cost of the Series X or PS5. Nintendo's Switch lineup continues to be a strong contender, with the standard model and OLED version providing portable play at various price points, though the anticipated Switch 2 may shift the market. Sony's PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is another option for those willing to spend slightly more, typically around $399, especially during sales. These prices reflect a market where even budget-friendly hardware has seen increases, making it essential for buyers to compare features and game libraries. For cost-conscious gamers, the Xbox Series S stands out as the most affordable entry into modern gaming, balancing price and performance. As the year progresses, watch for bundle deals and retailer discounts that can further reduce costs. Ultimately, the cheapest console depends on your gaming preferences and willingness to wait for promotions.
