Ruben Amorim’s Milan derby debut: Tactical masterclass over Inter echoes VHS-era legends

Ruben Amorim’s first taste of the Milan derby ended in a statement victory over Inter, as the Rossoneri coach channelled the spirit of the VHS-era legends he idolised as a child. Growing up in Lisbon, Amorim was captivated by the great Milan side of Maldini, Baresi, Gullit, Rijkaard, and Savicevic, and he once told Portuguese newspaper Expresso that his dream was to coach Milan after fulfilling his playing ambitions at Benfica. On derby day, he delivered a tactical lift that outmanoeuvred Inter, putting rivals on notice. The win matters because it signals Milan’s resurgence under a coach who blends nostalgic inspiration with modern strategy, and it tightens the Serie A title race. With Amorim at the helm, Milan are no longer just contenders—they are a force reawakened by the memories of their glorious past.
