Michael Carrick Sacking Looms at Manchester United: Unai Emery or Eddie Howe as INEOS Replacement?

Manchester United are reportedly on the brink of sacking manager Michael Carrick, continuing a turbulent cycle of managerial changes at Old Trafford. Pressure has mounted on Carrick after a string of poor results, with club owners INEOS now weighing their options for a successor. Among the leading candidates, Unai Emery has emerged as a standout choice. The Aston Villa boss has a proven track record in European competition and domestic resilience, and his appointment could be the best decision INEOS have made since taking control of the club. Another name in the frame is Newcastle United's Eddie Howe, though some insiders question whether Howe would simply be 'Carrick 2.0' – a promising English coach who may struggle to impose a clear identity at a club of United's size. The decision carries huge weight, as United risk falling further behind rivals Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool. With the January transfer window approaching, INEOS must act decisively to salvage the season and restore faith among supporters. The next appointment could define the club's trajectory for years to come.
