Gareth Batty Quits Surrey to Join Chennai Super Kings as Assistant Coach

Surrey head coach Gareth Batty has stepped down from his role to take up a position with Indian Premier League giants Chennai Super Kings as assistant head coach. Batty, who led Surrey to the County Championship title in 2022, leaves the club after a successful tenure to join the five-time IPL champions. His move reunites him with CSK head coach Stephen Fleming, with whom he has previously worked. Batty's appointment adds further English coaching expertise to the CSK setup, which already includes former England international Michael Hussey. The decision marks a significant career shift for Batty, who has been part of Surrey's coaching staff since 2017. For Surrey, the search begins for a new head coach as they aim to defend their County Championship crown. Batty's departure is a blow to the county, but the opportunity to work in the world's premier T20 league was too good to turn down. CSK, known for their experienced coaching staff, will benefit from Batty's tactical acumen and leadership skills as they target another IPL title.
