Burnley appoint former CSKA Moscow and Basel boss Fabio Celestini as new head coach

Burnley have named former Switzerland midfielder Fabio Celestini as their new head coach, four days after dismissing Nicky Hayen. The 50-year-old, who previously managed CSKA Moscow and enjoyed a successful spell at Basel, takes over a side sitting 22nd in the Championship with just one win from 12 league games following relegation from the Premier League. The club did not disclose the length of Celestini's contract but said he "arrives with a proven capacity to win and to adapt to different football environments." Celestini's immediate task is to lift Burnley out of the relegation zone and restore confidence in a squad struggling for form. His experience in European competitions and league titles with Basel could prove vital in the second tier. With the January transfer window approaching, the new boss will also have a chance to reshape the squad. Burnley fans will hope his tactical flexibility and winning pedigree can spark a revival at Turf Moor.
