Breanna Stewart Returns as World Cup MVP, But Liberty Face Crucial Stretch Against Minnesota and Atlanta to Secure Playoff Spot

After capturing the 2024 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup MVP honors, Breanna Stewart has re-joined the New York Liberty at a pivotal moment in the WNBA season. Her return brings immediate momentum, but the Liberty now face a high-stakes stretch: two critical matchups against the Minnesota Lynx and a pair of games against the Atlanta Dream. With the playoff race tightening, the Liberty sit just outside the top four, making each game essential. The Lynx, led by Napheesa Collier, remain a formidable opponent, while Atlanta’s dynamic backcourt of Rhyne Howard and Caitlin Clark adds pressure to New York’s defense. Stewart’s leadership and scoring ability are vital, but consistency across the roster will determine whether the Liberty avoid a dangerous slide into the postseason wild-card scramble. This stretch could define their championship aspirations. The next seven days may decide their playoff fate.
