Social Media on Travel Platforms Can Boost Gen Z Well-Being Through Positive Engagement, Study Finds

A new study published in the International Journal of Electronic Marketing and Retailing reveals that social media features on online travel platforms can enhance the well-being of Generation Z users when they foster participation and positive emotional experiences. The research, which surveyed 210 Gen Z users, highlights that platforms encouraging active engagement—such as sharing travel stories, reacting to content, and connecting with others—can lead to improved customer well-being. The findings suggest that travel companies should design social media functionalities that go beyond mere information sharing, focusing instead on creating joyful and meaningful interactions. This is particularly relevant as Gen Z, a demographic known for its heavy social media use and travel aspirations, increasingly turns to digital platforms for trip planning and inspiration. The study underscores the importance of emotional engagement in digital travel experiences, indicating that positive interactions can translate into both personal satisfaction and brand loyalty. For travel platforms aiming to attract and retain young users, integrating social elements that spark happiness and community may be a key strategy in a competitive market.
