Why Patrick Stewart Never Voiced Picard on Star Trek: Lower Decks

Star Trek: Lower Decks creator Mike McMahan has revealed that Patrick Stewart never reprised his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard on the animated series, despite many other The Next Generation alumni lending their voices. McMahan explained that Stewart's absence stemmed from scheduling conflicts and the actor's focus on Star Trek: Picard, which ran concurrently. The animated comedy, which concluded in 2024 after five seasons, featured guest appearances from TNG stars like Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, and John de Lancie, but Picard remained a notable omission. McMahan expressed regret, noting that the team had hoped to include Stewart but respected his commitments. The lack of Picard on Lower Decks highlights the challenges of coordinating talent across multiple Star Trek productions. Fans may still hope for a future crossover, but for now, Picard's animated debut remains unrealized.
