James Gunn’s DCU Batman Casting: Ranking the Top 8 Fancasts for the Dark Knight

As James Gunn’s DC Universe moves forward with its Batman reboot, fan speculation is heating up over who will don the cape and cowl. The new film, part of the first chapter titled “Gods and Monsters,” is expected to introduce a younger Bruce Wayne, separate from Robert Pattinson’s portrayal in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. This casting decision is crucial for the DCU’s interconnected future, as Batman will anchor multiple projects alongside Superman, Wonder Woman, and other heroes. The role demands an actor who can balance the duality of billionaire playboy and brooding vigilante while fitting into Gunn’s unique tonal vision. Among the top fancasts, names like Jensen Ackles, known for voicing Batman in animated films and his long run on Supernatural, and Alan Ritchson, whose physicality in Reacher has drawn comparisons to the comic book hero, lead the pack. Other contenders include Oliver Jackson-Cohen, praised for his intense performances in The Haunting of Hill House, and Jacob Elordi, whose rising star power from Euphoria could bring a fresh, youthful energy. The list also features Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has blockbuster experience but may be tied to other franchises, and Richard Madden, whose work in Bodyguard showcased his action chops. Each candidate brings a distinct flavor, and the final choice will signal the direction of the entire DCU. With filming expected to start soon, the announcement could come at any moment, setting the stage for the next era of Gotham’s protector.
