Dark Matter Creator Blake Crouch Criticizes Marvel's Multiverse: 'I Don't Respect It'

Blake Crouch, the author and showrunner behind Apple TV+'s hit series Dark Matter, has publicly distanced himself from Marvel Studios' multiverse storytelling. In an exclusive interview, Crouch stated he has no respect for Marvel's approach, arguing that the studio's use of parallel universes often lacks narrative stakes and emotional grounding. His comments come as Dark Matter—based on his bestselling novel—earns acclaim for its grounded, character-driven take on alternate realities, starring Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly. Crouch's critique underscores a growing divide between blockbuster franchise storytelling and prestige sci-fi that prioritizes human drama over spectacle. With Dark Matter renewed for a second season, Crouch is poised to further explore the multiverse on his own terms, challenging Marvel's dominance in the genre.
