WoW: Forever Won't Have Dead Servers, Blizzard Promises Tools to Prevent Unsustainable Rulesets

Blizzard has confirmed that World of Warcraft: Forever will avoid the dead server problem that plagued WoW Classic, with tools ready to merge or link ruleset populations if they become unsustainable. Senior game designer Josh Greenfield explained on the WoW: Forever podcast that if RP or RP-PvP servers struggle, Blizzard can link their auction houses or allow cross-ruleset grouping for instanced content. The team debated cross-ruleset interactions during development but ultimately kept rulesets separate to preserve distinct economies and communities, citing differences like easier gold farming on PvE servers. Greenfield called these options 'levers we can pull if we need to,' reassuring players who fear picking the wrong ruleset. With Forever's launch on November 4, Blizzard is also refining layering, adjusting racial abilities, and introducing full controller support, signaling a flexible future for the game.
