Nintendo Shuts Down Pokemon Unite in 2027, Ending Six-Year Run for MOBA

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have confirmed that Pokemon Unite, the free-to-play MOBA for Switch and mobile, will shut down on March 23, 2027, just days after the Aeos Crown 2027 tournament. The game, developed with TiMi Studio Group, launched in July 2021 but will stop selling premium Aeos Gems currency immediately. A final Library update will let players view stats and play practice rounds offline. The shutdown comes after Pokemon Unite was excluded from the 2027 Pokemon World Championships, signaling its diminished role in the franchise. With the recent release of battle-focused Pokemon Champions, the writing was on the wall. Pokemon Unite joins other discontinued Nintendo mobile titles like Mario Kart Tour, while Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp shifted to a paid offline model. Fans now look ahead to Pokemon Winds and Waves, the next mainline entry from Game Freak.
