Minecraft Creator Markus 'Notch' Persson Lists $70 Million Beverly Hills Mega-Mansion on Billionaire’s Row

Markus "Notch" Persson, the Swedish billionaire who created Minecraft and sold it to Microsoft for $2.5 billion in 2014, has put his Beverly Hills estate back on the market for $70 million—the same price he paid a decade ago. Persson originally outbid Beyoncé and Jay-Z for the 22,300-square-foot mansion, setting a record at the time for the highest price ever paid for a Beverly Hills home. The eight-bedroom, 15-bathroom property sits on about an acre in the exclusive "Billionaire's Row" enclave, offering panoramic views of downtown Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean, along with an elevator, pool, wine room, and home theater. Listing agent Aaron Kirma says Persson is selling because he rarely spends time in Los Angeles. The sale comes amid a cooling luxury market in LA, even as median home values have more than doubled, and as California voters consider a one-time 5% wealth tax on billionaires in the November 3 election. Persson, a polarizing figure whose controversial remarks led Microsoft to distance itself from him, is now parting with one of the most iconic properties in the city—a move that may signal shifting priorities for the reclusive tech mogul.
