Jackbox Games Accused of Plagiarizing Solo Dev Sam Greszes' Board Game Die on This Hill for Debate and Switch

Independent game designer Sam Greszes claims that Jackbox Games, the studio behind the popular You Don't Know Jack series, may have copied his board game Die on This Hill for their new title Debate and Switch. Greszes says he sent a demo of his game to Jackbox after they requested it, but the company then went silent. A year later, Jackbox launched Debate and Switch, which Greszes alleges bears striking similarities to his work. The controversy raises questions about intellectual property in the party game genre, where core mechanics are often simple and easily replicated. If true, the incident highlights the vulnerability of solo developers when pitching ideas to larger studios without formal protections. Jackbox has not yet publicly responded to the accusations, leaving the indie game community watching closely. The outcome could influence how developers share prototypes and seek legal safeguards in the future.
