GTA 6 Map Size Revealed: Nearly as Large as GTA 4, GTA 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 Combined

Rockstar Games has revealed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature a map roughly twice the size of GTA 5 and three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2, according to an interview with Edge magazine. The total landmass is nearly equivalent to the playable areas of GTA 4, GTA 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined. Co-studio head Aaron Garbut emphasized the game's density, stating it contains an "order of magnitude more interiors" than any previous Rockstar title. "Every back alley is as densely detailed and interesting as the others," Garbut said, adding that there are locations he hasn't personally seen despite years of development. The team felt immense pressure to deliver after 13 years of fan anticipation. "We can't just trot out something that's what people might expect," Garbut explained. "We've not compromised on the scale, the detail, the interactivity, the story, the open world. I feel like we've built a pyramid on Everest." GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a massive file size reflecting its ambitious scope. GTA 6 Online is rumored to follow in 2027. The scale and detail signal Rockstar's most immersive open world yet.
