EA Founder Bing Gordon: GTA 6 Success Means Beating Football on Thanksgiving, 75 Million Sales

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6 is poised to be a cultural and commercial juggernaut, but EA founder Bing Gordon has a unique benchmark for success: if players skip football on Thanksgiving to play the game. Speaking on the Sozzi Unleashed show, Gordon said, “I think from my point of view, what success for GTA 6 is going to be on Thanksgiving Day after eating your turkey, you don’t watch football, you play GTA.” The game launches just days before the holiday, setting up a head-to-head with America’s most-watched sport. Gordon also floated a sales target of 75 million copies, which he called “mind-blowing” and derived from what he believed was 750 million views of a GTA 6 trailer—likely the Extended Look that premiered on Netflix and YouTube. While no single video has hit that figure, cumulative views across platforms could approach it. GTA 6 is already tracking as a massive hit: Sensor Tower reports about 7 million copies sold so far, generating nearly $700 million in revenue, with projections of 25 million preorders by launch—about $2 billion. Circana data shows nearly 1 in 3 US console and PC gamers plan to buy the game, the highest purchase intent ever recorded. Gordon compared gaming to film, noting $300 million is great and $1 billion is obscenely great, but the industries aren’t directly comparable. For Rockstar and Take-Two, the real test may be whether GTA 6 can redefine entertainment habits—one turkey dinner at a time.
