Arkane Lyon Gets One-Month Extension to Find Buyer and Finish Marvel's Blade

Microsoft has extended the consultation period for Arkane Lyon by one month, giving the French studio more time to find a new owner or partner and continue development on Marvel's Blade. Originally facing a November 18 deadline, the extension reflects Microsoft's exploration of options, including finding a partner to support the studio, according to a company representative. Under French labor laws, Microsoft must conduct a three-month search for a buyer, and shutting down the studio would be costly due to required severance packages. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier noted that multiple paths are being explored to save Arkane Lyon, and he would be surprised if the studio were shut down. The studio's union has also lobbied Microsoft to re-employ affected workers within Xbox Game Studios or face court action, citing the difficult video game job market. Arkane Lyon, known for Deathloop, announced Marvel's Blade in December 2023, with a planned reveal in early 2027 and a Q4 2027 launch. The extension offers hope that the studio can complete the highly anticipated title, but the situation remains fluid as negotiations continue.
