Archive of Our Own Faces Extended Outage, Fanfiction Readers React as Site Could Be Down for Weeks

Archive of Our Own (AO3), the popular fanfiction hosting platform, is experiencing an extended outage that could last for several weeks, according to reports. The cause of the downtime remains unknown, leaving millions of users without access to their favorite stories and communities. AO3, run by the nonprofit Organization for Transformative Works, is a cornerstone of fan culture, hosting over 11 million works across countless fandoms. An outage of this length is unprecedented for the site, which typically resolves technical issues within hours or days. Fanfiction readers and writers have taken to social media to express frustration and concern, with many 'crashing out' over the sudden loss of their creative outlet and reading routines. The lack of communication about the cause has fueled speculation, but no official statement has clarified the situation. As the outage continues, the fan community is left waiting for updates, hoping for a swift resolution to restore access to the beloved archive.
