Taiwanese Feature ‘Uncle’ by Yen Hao-hsuan Wins Top Prize at Tokyo Gap-Financing Market

Taiwanese filmmaker Yen Hao-hsuan’s project “Uncle” won the Tokyo Project Award at the seventh Tokyo Gap-Financing Market (TGFM) on Friday in Tokyo. The film also received the Asian Gen-Z Award earlier in the ceremony, marking a double win for the debut feature. The market, which selected 24 projects this year, aims to connect international filmmakers with Japanese and Asian financiers, distributors, and producers. Yen’s project stood out among a competitive field, highlighting Taiwan’s growing presence in regional cinema. The win provides crucial gap financing and industry exposure that could accelerate the film’s completion and distribution. With this recognition, “Uncle” is poised to attract further investment and festival attention, signaling a bright future for emerging Taiwanese storytelling on the global stage.
