Taiwan-Japan Film Fund Daily Capital Launches at Tokyo Market, Backs Period Romance ‘Love Ends in Bloom’

A new Taiwan-Japan co-production fund, Daily Capital, launched at the Tokyo International Film Festival’s TIFFCOM market on October 31, 2023, during the ‘Taiwan Originals: Project Showcase’ event. The fund aims to raise NT$100 million (approximately $3.1 million) and invest in at least five projects across film, television, and animation in its first phase. Its inaugural project is ‘Love Ends in Bloom’, a period romance set in 1930s Taiwan and Japan, directed by Taiwanese filmmaker Lin Cheng-sheng and written by Japanese screenwriter Hiroshi Saito. The film will be produced by Taiwan’s Flash Forward Entertainment and Japan’s Pony Canyon, with shooting expected to begin in 2024. The launch highlights growing cross-strait collaboration in content creation, leveraging Taiwan’s creative talent and Japan’s production expertise. With both markets seeking international expansion, such funds could accelerate co-productions and distribution across Asia. Daily Capital’s debut signals a strategic push to tap into the global demand for Asian stories, potentially setting a template for future bilateral investment vehicles.
