SNL UK Cold Open Mocks PM Andy Burnham’s Bean Stockpile with Parodies of Celebrity Traitors, Graham Norton Show, and Bake Off

Saturday Night Live UK opened its latest episode with a biting political sketch targeting Prime Minister Andy Burnham and his controversial bean stockpile. George Fouracres portrayed Burnham alongside Emma Sidi as Liverpool Mayor Steve Rotheram, in a spoof of their recent Gogglebox special. The sketch drew on familiar British TV formats, parodying Celebrity Traitors, The Graham Norton Show, and The Great British Bake Off to lampoon the government’s food security policy. By weaving in recognizable personalities and shows, SNL UK highlighted the absurdity of the stockpile while capitalizing on the public’s familiarity with these programs. The cold open matters because it signals how mainstream comedy is engaging with current political debates—and it may shape public perception of Burnham’s leadership ahead of upcoming elections. Expect more satire as the bean stockpile remains a hot topic.
