Oscars 2025 Documentary Feature Predictions: Can ‘You Can See Everything’ Overcome Branch Snubs?

The race for the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature is heating up, with Variety chief awards editor Clayton Davis tracking the latest predictions. Frontrunner ‘You Can See Everything’ faces an uphill battle, as the Academy’s documentary branch has a history of overlooking favored contenders. Davis’s analysis suggests that while the film has strong critical support, branch voters may lean toward more traditional or socially urgent subjects. The branch’s notoriously unpredictable tastes could lead to a surprise nomination lineup, echoing past years when presumed locks were left out. With the Oscars ceremony approaching, all eyes are on whether the documentary branch will embrace this unconventional entry or deliver another shock. The final nominations will reveal whether the branch’s independent streak holds or if broader industry buzz prevails.
