Natalie Baszile's 'Friends and Family' Novel to Be Developed as 'Good People' Series by Universal Television, Mary J. Blige, and Gina Prince-Bythewood

Universal Television is developing a series adaptation of Natalie Baszile's novel "Friends and Family," tentatively titled "Good People." The project reunites Baszile with key creatives from the acclaimed "Queen Sugar" adaptation: Mary J. Blige and Gina Prince-Bythewood are attached, with Prince-Bythewood executive producing. Baszile will write the pilot and executive produce alongside Blige and Prince-Bythewood. The story centers on a successful Black woman whose life unravels when she discovers her husband's secret, forcing her to confront her past and rebuild. This marks the second Baszile novel to be adapted for television, following the success of "Queen Sugar," which ran for seven seasons on OWN. The collaboration signals a continued commitment to bringing nuanced Black stories to the screen, with a focus on complex female protagonists. As development progresses, the series could become a flagship for Universal Television's diverse slate, appealing to audiences hungry for authentic, character-driven drama.
