Hulu and Sony Developing Conspiracy Crime Drama ‘Hotline’ From John Swetnam and Steve Lightfoot

Hulu and Sony Pictures Television are teaming up for a new conspiracy-driven crime drama called “Hotline,” Variety has learned exclusively. The series comes from writer John Swetnam, known for “Into the Storm” and “Countdown,” and Steve Lightfoot, the showrunner behind Marvel’s “The Punisher” and the upcoming “Spider-Noir.” Paul Shapiro, whose credits include “The Boys” and “The Vampire Diaries,” will executive produce via his Back East Entertainment banner. The logline centers on a brilliant but troubled operator at a top-secret criminal call center who starts breaking the rules to help a caller in need, pulling her into a dangerous web of conspiracy. The project highlights Hulu’s continued push into high-concept thriller territory and Sony’s strategy of pairing established genre talent with rising creators. With Lightfoot’s track record for gritty, character-driven action and Swetnam’s knack for twisty narratives, “Hotline” could become a buzzy addition to the streaming landscape. Production timelines and casting have not yet been announced.
