Hong Sangsoo’s Locarno Winner ‘Nowhere to Lay My Eyes’ and Justin H. Min’s ‘Journey There’ Secure More Global Sales via Finecut

Seoul-based sales agent Finecut has locked in a fresh round of international territory deals for two acclaimed Korean films: Hong Sangsoo’s ‘Nowhere to Lay My Eyes,’ which took home three prizes at the 79th Locarno Film Festival, and Kim Jin-yu’s ‘Journey There,’ marking the first Korean production to feature ‘Beef’ actor Justin H. Min. For ‘Nowhere to Lay My Eyes,’ Carlotta Films has acquired French rights, continuing the distributor’s long-standing support of Hong’s work, while other territories including Spain and Taiwan have also been secured. The film, which explores themes of loss and memory through Hong’s signature minimalist style, has been praised by critics for its quiet power and earned the director yet another major festival accolade. Meanwhile, ‘Journey There,’ a drama about a Korean-American man returning to his roots, is drawing attention thanks to Min’s rising international profile following his breakout role in Netflix’s ‘Beef.’ The sales momentum reflects the growing global appetite for Korean cinema beyond the blockbuster sphere, as arthouse and independent titles find receptive audiences in Europe and Asia. With these new deals, both films are poised to reach wider audiences and further cement the reputations of their directors and stars on the world stage.
