HBO’s Harry Potter Series Casts Shameless Star David Threlfall as Sorting Hat, Reveals Ghosts and Fat Lady

HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series has announced key casting for iconic magical artifacts and spectral characters, just ahead of Halloween. David Threlfall, best known as Frank Gallagher in the original UK Shameless, will voice the Sorting Hat. Threlfall’s casting brings a gritty, acclaimed British actor into the Wizarding World, following his BAFTA-winning turn in the series that inspired Showtime’s American remake starring William H. Macy. The announcement also includes the actors playing Hogwarts’ resident ghosts and the Fat Lady portrait, though specific names were not detailed in the source. These roles are crucial for establishing the castle’s atmosphere and traditions, from the Sorting Ceremony to the password-protected Gryffindor common room. The casting news signals HBO’s commitment to blending established British talent with the franchise’s beloved lore as production continues. Fans can expect more reveals as the series moves toward its anticipated debut.
