French Action Film ‘Red Bird’ Secures CIS Distribution Deal as ‘Step Back, Doors Closing’ Debuts at Tokyo Market

International buyers at the Tokyo International Film Festival’s TIFFCOM market are getting a first look at two new titles: the French action film ‘Red Bird’ and the American indie romance ‘Step Back, Doors Closing’. Paris-based sales company Cappu Films has closed a distribution deal for ‘Red Bird’ with Kinologistika LLC, covering the CIS region, which includes Russia and other former Soviet states. The film, directed by Franck Phelizon, stars Nassim Lyes and Lina El Arabi. Meanwhile, Cappu Films has acquired international sales rights to ‘Step Back, Doors Closing’, a Washington, D.C.-set romance directed by Louisa de Cossy and starring Carmen Anello and Reilly Anspaugh. The film follows two strangers who meet on the Metro and spend a day together. The deals underscore the growing demand for genre films and character-driven stories in international markets, with TIFFCOM serving as a key platform for independent producers. As the market continues, further sales announcements are expected.
