Think Architecture's House on a Slope: A Fragmented Lake Zurich Retreat in Dark Limestone and Cedar

Swiss studio Think Architecture has completed House on a Slope, a 1,000-square-metre private residence on a narrow, steeply sloping site overlooking Lake Zurich. The design breaks the home into a cluster of interconnected volumes clad in dark limestone and cedar, stepping down the terrain to sit harmoniously within the landscape. Two distinct blocks are linked by a subterranean art space, creating a fragmented yet cohesive composition that responds directly to the challenging topography. This approach not only preserves views but also reduces the visual mass of the building, allowing it to blend with the surrounding environment. The project demonstrates how thoughtful material choices and stepped massing can turn a difficult slope into an architectural opportunity, offering a model for sensitive hillside construction in scenic regions. As demand grows for homes that respect their natural context, House on a Slope shows that luxury and landscape can coexist without compromise.
