Studio Gang Opens Shirley Chisholm Recreation Center, A Community Hub for Fitness and Learning in Brooklyn

Studio Gang has unveiled the Shirley Chisholm Recreation Center in Brooklyn's Crown Heights, a new multi-level public facility designed to foster community well-being. Named after the pioneering congresswoman, the center replaces an outdated facility with a modern, accessible space for fitness, recreation, and education. The design features an undulating brick facade, ample natural light, and integrated spaces including a gymnasium, swimming pool, classrooms, and a teen center. Emphasizing sustainability and community engagement, the center aims to serve as a vital resource for residents of all ages. Managed collaboratively by the NYC Parks & Recreation and the Civic Project, the center embodies Shirley Chisholm's legacy of public service and empowerment. This project sets a precedent for community-centered public architecture, prioritizing social equity and holistic development, and is poised to become a cornerstone for the Crown Heights neighborhood for years to come.
