MOLD Architects Designs Terracotta M Residence on Serifos with Seven Courtyards

MOLD Architects has completed the M Residence on the Greek island of Serifos, a terracotta-colored home punctuated by seven open-air courtyards. The design uses curved passages and planted courtyards to create a sheltered interior that responds to the island’s strong winds and intense sunlight. The courtyards act as microclimates, providing natural ventilation and cooling while blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living. This approach reduces the need for mechanical cooling and integrates the building with the rugged Cycladic landscape. The project demonstrates how contemporary architecture can adapt to local climate and tradition, offering a model for sustainable design in the Aegean. M Residence is a notable example of bioclimatic architecture that prioritizes comfort and connection to nature.
