km5 Sp1 Speaker and Mp1 Mixer Bring DJ-Style Control to CD Listening

km5 has introduced the Sp1 speaker and Mp1 mixer, a duo that puts a DJ-style spin on playing CDs. The Sp1 is a portable speaker with a built-in CD player, while the Mp1 is a companion mixer that adds hands-on control for blending tracks. Together, they cater to listeners who miss the tactile ritual of physical media but want modern flexibility. The Sp1’s slot-loading CD mechanism and the Mp1’s faders and cue buttons let users transition between songs in real time, mimicking a club setup at home. This matters because it revives the CD format for a niche audience—collectors, DJs, and nostalgic music fans—who value both sound quality and interactive playback. With streaming dominating, km5’s hardware stands out by turning passive listening into an active, performance-like experience. The Sp1 and Mp1 are designed to work seamlessly, though km5 has not yet detailed pricing or availability. If successful, they could inspire a wave of hybrid audio gear that bridges retro formats and contemporary features. For now, they offer a fresh reason to dust off those old CD booklets.
