Scott & Scott Architects Crafts Raw Elegance with Board-Formed Concrete Staircase for Purple Brand Studios

Scott & Scott Architects has transformed a 1973 Vancouver warehouse into the new 14,000-square-foot atelier for denim fashion label Purple Brand. The design centres on a dramatic, board-formed concrete staircase that serves as a sculptural anchor, imbuing the industrial space with raw elegance and a tactile richness. The project embraces the building's heritage, leaving exposed concrete, steel, and original features visible, creating a backdrop that is both robust and refined. This approach fosters a creative and functional environment, balancing industrial vernacular with contemporary design needs. The staircase’s central placement and textured materiality define the space, promoting circulation and visual interest. The studio design meticulously caters to the label's operational requirements, including design, development, and collaboration zones, all within an open yet thoughtfully zoned layout. It's a prime example of adaptive reuse, creating an inspiring and durable hub for creative innovation.
