Büro Ziyu Zhuang embeds Zi Museum cluster in Xianning meadow to blend with landscape

Büro Ziyu Zhuang has completed the Zi Museum, a cluster of four cultural buildings set within parkland in Xianning, China. The project includes a viewing tower, a rammed-earth workshop, and additional exhibition spaces, all designed to integrate with the surrounding meadow. By using local materials and low-lying forms, the architecture aims to “blend seamlessly” into the natural landscape rather than dominate it. The museum offers visitors a chance to engage with art and craft while moving through open green space, with the tower providing panoramic views of the site. This approach reflects a growing trend in cultural architecture toward environmental sensitivity and place-based design. For Xianning, a city not widely known as a cultural destination, the Zi Museum could become a landmark that draws attention to the region’s heritage and landscape. The project demonstrates how contemporary museum design can balance public function with ecological respect, creating a destination that feels both purposeful and unobtrusive.
