Barde vanVoltt Crafts "Brutalist Sanctuary" Penthouse in Mexico City

Dutch design studio Barde vanVoltt, in partnership with local architect José Muniz, has transformed a 300-square-metre Mexico City penthouse into a "brutalist sanctuary" for a creative couple. The two-level residence prioritizes raw materiality, featuring textured stucco walls, sleek stainless steel panels, and monumental stone elements. This approach moves away from fleeting trends, embracing a sense of permanence and tactile warmth. The design masterfully balances the inherent strength of brutalist aesthetics with a sophisticated, liveable luxury. The lower level serves as an open-plan living and entertaining space, while the upper level offers intimate private quarters. The project highlights a successful collaboration between international design vision and local construction expertise, resulting in a unique urban retreat that fosters creativity and introspection. This dwelling serves as a powerful example of contemporary brutalism, offering a grounded, artful haven within the bustling cityscape.
