Robinhood to List Ripple's $2.5 Billion RLUSD Stablecoin Despite Backing Rival USDG

Robinhood Markets is set to offer Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin to its retail customers later this year, even as the trading platform continues to support the rival USDG token it helped launch. RLUSD, issued by Ripple, has reached a market capitalization of $2.5 billion, making it one of the fastest-growing dollar-pegged digital assets. The move signals Robinhood's strategy to provide a broad selection of stablecoins, which are cryptocurrencies designed to maintain a 1:1 value with the U.S. dollar. Stablecoins have become essential infrastructure for crypto trading, payments, and decentralized finance, and major exchanges are increasingly listing multiple options to meet user demand. Robinhood's decision to list RLUSD comes despite its involvement in the Global Dollar Network, a consortium that launched USDG in November 2024. USDG was created as a compliant, yield-sharing stablecoin with partners like Paxos, Galaxy, and Kraken. By adding RLUSD, Robinhood is acknowledging the competitive landscape where no single stablecoin dominates retail markets beyond incumbents like Tether's USDT and Circle's USDC. For Ripple, the listing on a mainstream brokerage app like Robinhood could accelerate RLUSD's adoption among everyday investors, challenging the market leaders. The move highlights how exchanges are balancing strategic partnerships with customer choice, as stablecoin liquidity becomes a key battleground in the crypto economy.
