Bybit Hack: 18,270 Bitcoin Stolen, Surpassing Tesla’s Holdings and Doubling El Salvador’s Reserve

The recent cyberattack on cryptocurrency exchange Bybit has resulted in the theft of 18,270 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $1.4 billion. This staggering amount now exceeds the disclosed Bitcoin holdings of electric vehicle giant Tesla, which stands at around 9,720 BTC, and is more than double the national reserve of El Salvador, which holds roughly 6,000 BTC. The stolen funds come within 442 coins of the amount held by SpaceX, highlighting the scale of the breach. Blockchain investigators have linked the attack to North Korean state-sponsored hacking groups, known for targeting cryptocurrency platforms to fund the regime. The incident underscores the growing sophistication of cyber threats in the digital asset space and raises urgent questions about exchange security and regulatory oversight. As the industry grapples with this massive loss, the event may accelerate calls for stronger safeguards and international cooperation to combat crypto-related crime.
