How We’d Spec the 2027 BMW 3-Series: Our Ideal Sports Sedan Build

BMW has opened the online configurator for the redesigned 2027 3-Series, and we dove in to build our ideal version of the iconic sports sedan. The new model brings sharper styling, updated powertrains, and a tech-laden cabin, but the real fun starts when you start ticking boxes. We focused on the M340i trim, which pairs a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system for 386 horsepower. That’s 4 more than the outgoing car, and with xDrive all-wheel drive, it should sprint to 60 mph in just over 4 seconds. We’d skip the larger wheels for ride comfort, but add the adaptive M suspension and the M Sport differential for sharper cornering. Inside, the curved display and iDrive 9 are standard, but we’d opt for the upgraded Harman Kardon audio and ventilated sport seats—because daily driving deserves a little luxury. Pricing starts around $50,000 for the 330i, but our build lands near $65,000. That’s a lot for a 3-Series, but it’s still the benchmark for sport sedans. The 2027 model arrives this summer, and if you want one, the configurator is live now. Choose wisely.
